Why not create a simple program, and let the machine cut the air instead of material. Better yet, why even run the spindle during the test.
Every CNC Machine has quirks that you need to learn.CNC machines have different working areas. Every CNC machine is just a little bit different then the rest of them.You should learn your machine before you put it to work.
Generally, with a CNC Router, we are machining something. While machining, “chips” are being thrown off. Sometimes at a very rapid speed. Here is where safety glasses, face shields and material barriers come into play. Use them! The machine doesn’t know you are standing there. In the words of every boxing ref before a match, “protect yourself at all times!”

There are basically five elements to a CNC Project that you need to know: Design - planning on what you want to build CAD - translating it into the computer CAM - converting it into machine language Controlling - directing your machine's motion Machining - building the part to specifications
These five elements are really the building blocks to a CNC project. As you see them above, that is generally the order people associate them in.For example you can't control your CNC machine until you have a design ready. You can't use your CAM software before your CAD software. One of the main things you need to address is how these elements interact with each other. Right now this may seem confusing. In a word, no. You will probably need to know how to quickly scan your G-Code if you are having problems during your machining simulation.G-Code and CNC programs are throwaway programs for the most part. What do I mean by that? Let me explain.
Let us look at a very specific design. Let’s say a 12” by 12” square. You build your model, run it through your CAM Software and create a CNC Program made up of G-Code instructions to your machine. Say tomorrow the job requirements change to a 24” by 24” square. Do you go into your G-Code line by line and change the code?Most people would not. They would go back into their CAD or CAM program and scale the square up to 24” by 24”. Then post-process the job again to get their new G-Code program.
There are some people that would do this editing line by line because the design is simple. Now think of a complex shape and what scaling it up or down would entail.This would include changes to the G-Code and reviewing it line by line. We are talking thousands of lines here vs. Going back and quickly changing the size of the model, then creating some new G-Code. And that is why G-Code is throwaway. Use it over and over when you can, but don’t fret over archiving it if something changes. It is much better to make a copy of the design (CAD File) in its original state and save that somewhere. That is much more useful.
Post Processing??? - Now you have me worried.With all the differences in G-Codes and and M-Codes, how will we ever keep it straight?
Don’t worry about that. The CAM program you choose will have many Post Processors.Post processors are like word translators. They help the CAM Program spit out the right CNC Program for your specific machine.What you have to do is select the right post processor before you create the G-Code. That is simple.
Most CAM programs have many machine specific post processors already loaded. All you do is go to the list of them and click on your machine to select it. If you build your own CNC Machine, there are generic post processors loaded for different types of machines. Usually you pick a generic one and modify it a bit with a little testing. You are making sure a move in the X-Axis positive direction really means what you want it to mean.

G-Code is the common name for the programming language of CNC Machines.Somewhat of a general, catchall term for CNC programming language. Very few machines adhere to this standard today. There are as many varations as there are manufacturers.
This is how I think of G-Code. It is a simple language built off of the Cartesian Coordinate System for motion control. That is a mouthful. I don’t know if that is exactly right, but you will get my meaning in a second when we go through some code line by line. You will remember your High School Geometry soon enough. For the real pros out there, you know there is much more to G-Code then that, but it is a good place to start thinking about it.
You will see many variations of the G-Code name like: Gcode G-Code G-Code g-code G Code G-Code
Are there other “Codes?” In a word…Yes. We will get to that in a moment. G-code is also the name of any command in a CNC program that begins with the letter G. G-Codes generally tell the machine to perform an action. G-Codes can tell machines to move a certain distance in the X-Axis for example.Or, make a quick move to another location. Or, move in an arcing fashion while milling. An on and on and on.

Why does the G-Code program file change? We humans like flexibility. We also like standards. G-Codes are standardized in a certain sense.Once you're able to read G-Code, you can begin to read different variations on it. That is the standardized part. All machines are not created alike. Even identical machines are different to a certain degree. They may not have the same tools loaded or they have been slightly modified to produce a certain type of part.Isn't it interesting how people like to customize things.
That is why g-code programs are not the same. You need some flexibility in the programming to accommodate all situations. Couple that with the fact that every manufacturer thinks their version is the best and you get a myriad of G-Codes out there.
Many manufacturers also try to force you to only use their code. For example, they give you a design interface to make parts and a CAM interface to produce code. They lock you into their “Black Box” so you can’t go elsewhere for service and support. They lock you in their “Family.” Sometimes they make up a completely different kind of G-Code language that no one can understand but them. They do that to keep your hands tied up. What is an M-Code? M-Codes are related to G-Codes. M-Codes control different machine functions.Some of these different functions are turning the CNC machine off and on.Flipping the spindle on or off. Turning a plasma torch on or off. Turning coolant on or off. You get the idea. When programming your CNC machine you may need to perform these functions. Like G-Code, M-Codes vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and from machine to machine. As you can imagine you would need an M-Code for turning a plasma torch on and off on a CNC Plasma Cutting Machine. You wouldn’t need an M-Code to turn a spindle on and off though. Hey, the machine doesn’t even have a spindle. It’s a plasma cutter!

One day I knew I had a problem. I just spent 4 hours with my plasma cutter in my right hand. While making this first table a problem arose. It is the one I mentioned above with my right hand. After plasma cutting all those parts my wrist really began to hurt. While welding professionally there was always the threat of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Welders are constantly afflicted by this injury and others because of Repetitive Motion. I really wasn’t scared of the technology to start with. I grew up in fabrication shops across the Midwest and had seen these machines in action. These machine “Operators” were always held in high esteem at the shop. They always made more Money and always had as much Overtime as they wanted. I decided if they could do it, I could do it. CNC hobby projects were not cheap at the time. I figured I would have to invest $4,000 - $5,000 to build my table (they have come down considerably). Keep in mind this was in 2000-2001. For some reason that didn’t scare me off. I always liked a good challenge and this was it. With blind faith, I ordered up a CNC Controller and went down to my local steel yard to fill the back of my truck with steel.
Little Did I know… There was a steep learning curve with DIY CNC. Building a frame for the machine is only a small part of the project. Today it is much easier. The software, components and suppliers are better. There is an entire cottage industry that has sprung up around CNC to support it. Your water and sand mixture is one of the most important parts of making your mold. Too much water can ruin the mold and possibly destroy it while too little water will create a poor casting. Green Sand is similar to Normal Sand except that Green Sand has properties that allow it to retain the shape of the mold. Green sand usually contains bentonite clay, sand, and water.
After the sand is packed, the pattern or original is removed carefully. Molten metal is poured into the mold and allowed to cool. The metal caster will then break the mold and dig out the casting.

Green sand is not really green the color refers to the damp nature of the sand. Green sand is created by adding water and bentonite to the sand. Weapons and sculptures were traditionally created using this method but as the DIY movement gained momentum many modern day casters have found a use for DIY Casting to make plumbing fixtures, door knobs, and many other items. Today, small foundries can be found in many backyards, garages, and workshops.
In order to make a casting of metal, you will need a furnace capable of melting metal alloys at high temperatures. Usually, individual metal casters will construct their own furnace. There are companies that will sell small scale furnaces but they are often costly. The most common type of casting is called Sand Casting which uses sand or green sand to make the molds where the molten metal will be poured into to form the finished product. The mold is a handmade item placed in a flask which has two parts, a cope and drag. The mold is usually made of sand, but can also be created using other ingredients like latex or even metal. It is in the mold that you will set the pattern to form the mold cavity.

Metal Casting is basically the manufacturing process through which a liquid material is emptied into a mold that includes a hollow opening of the desired art or shape and is then allowed to harden. This hardened casting is then removed and broken out in order to complete the process. Apart from using sand as the main mold material there is a metal that is used as the mold. Normally, a cast meehanite or an iron is used as the material for mold and the objects are made from the sand or metal. The cavity surface is basically covered with a thin layer of material that is heat resistant which can be either sodium silicate or clay.
Casting Molds: The casting molds are actually pre heated to nearly 392 degree Fahrenheit before the metal is pored in the cavity. The design of cavity for these casting molds does not chase the same principle for shrinkage like in the sand casting molds. This is because of the fact that the metal casting molds heat up and enlarge during the pouring process and so the cavity does not need to be expanded like in the sand castings. Nevertheless, care should be taken in order to ensure a correct thermal balance as you can use external water source for cooling or you can also opt for suitable radiation techniques.
Permanent Casting MOlds : Although these permanent casting molds are not as flexible as the sand castings which allow to be used in different metal patterns or designs but these lower the cost of producing the part. When there is a production run of more than 1000 parts the permanent casting molds would produce much lower piece of cost part. Apart from this, the break even point also depends on the density of the part. There are more complex parts that are favored when you use these permanent casting molds. The typical part size would be around 50g to 70 kg and the basic materials used are medium and small parts that are made from magnesium, aluminum and brass and also their alloys.
Slush Metal Casting : The slush casting molds are actually a special type of permanent casting molds in which the molted metal is not allowed to solidify completely. After gaining the desired wall thickness the still not solidified molted metal is then poured out. This is basically used in order to make void ornamental objects like lamps, candlesticks and statues.
Corthias Casting Molds: This type casting molds is yet another variant of the permanent casting molds in which basically a plunger is used to pack the molted metal through the spure hole. This type of process allows thinner walls and to produce greater details.

It is only when this pattern is taken away that you can see the cavity that is left is exactly the shape of the object that was suppose to be cast. The casting pattern should however be designed in order to be easily removed without any damage done to the mold. The pattern should be also be perfectly dimensioned and should be very durable for the intended use. The patterns that are used in sand casting can be made of plastic, metal, wood or any other material. The casting patterns are made to the right standards of construction this is basically because they can last for a reasonable time. The durability of the pattern would however depend according to the quality of grade in the casting pattern. If the pattern is made of right quality then they would be constantly providing dimensionally perfect casting patterns.

The casting patterns should also include proper allowance for the draft. This means that the sides would be tapered so that when it would be taken out from the sand it will not tend to drag out sand of place along with it. One to Three degrees is when this process, that is also called a taper, is done. The foundry engineers or the pattern maker of the casting patterns actually decide where the gating systems, risers and the sprues are places in terms of casting patterns. In this pattern a hole is desired in the Metal Casting that uses a core which defines the location and volume of in the casting where the metal would not flow into. Chills are also used sometimes located on the casting patterns surface and these are then formed into sand molds. The World Of Warcraft Mage is a popular class. In World of Warcraft, the Mage is a serious damage dealer, who is about as tough as wet toilet tissue. Ok, the Mage isn't that weak, but with no Pet and wearing cloth armor, the Mage is an offensive damage machine. In tight areas (like Dungeons and caves) it is tough to solo a mage. With breathing room, a mage can easily solo critters 3 levels higher or more.
Warcraft Mages are great in groups. With warriors and pets up front holding off the mobs or other baddies, the mage can sit back and unleash amazing power, steamrolling through the baddies with ease. Just don't try to go one on one in a melee situation with a sword-slinger. Frost them, run, slammed a fire bolt down their throat, Frost Nova, then run until you can Frost them again. Polymorph a mob if you're overwhelmed. Repeat! The good mage knows how to frost his enemies, slowing them down, and preventing them from ever getting into melee range.
Without manna, the Wow Mage is useless. Mages burn through mana quicker than any other character. In between fights you'll have to wait as your mana recharges. And when you get to higher levels and are using spells that really suck down mana, this problem only becomes worse.
Regardless of your level or spec, your main priority when building your warcraft mage should be getting a hard hitting main hand weapon for maximum special attack damage and a fast offhand for increased poison application and other proc effects.
A wand can be a good friend to the World Of Warcraft Mage. So can mana potions. Learn to use both to keep yourself as active as possible. The faster you grind (and the less you sit there recharging) the faster you level. The wand provides fast and cost free damage, not only not using mana, but allowing it to recharge. And higher level mana potions will recharge you instantly.

Xbox 360 – A Complete Look
After I set it up I saw the Xbox 360 is a far cry from its predecessor. The original Xbox was big, black and boxy looking. The new unit is anything but. It is far smaller, although not as small as the Wii or Playstation, and white in color. For the first part of the Xbox 360 console review I give it a 4 out of 5 for appearance.
While appearance for some people is important, if you are a serious gamer then this is the least important thing. So let’s take a look into the next part of the Xbox 360 core console review and look at the titles that are available. This is not an Xbox 360 game review, but rather a look at the games you can get. The first thing that stands out for this Xbox 360 console review is that the Xbox is the only system that you can get Halo for. While it has been made available for the PC, the game play on the console is far superior. The Halo series is perhaps my favorite of all time and this is a big plus in favor of the Xbox. While the single player is fun, this game truly shines with the multiplayer options, but I will get into that in the next section. For game titles I give the Xbox 360 console review a 4 out of 5.
The next thing that is really important when you get a gaming is system is the multi player options. The original Xbox blew its competition out of the water, and while Playstation and the Wii are catching up the Xbox 360 is still leading the pack. You can find games easily; get content, and almost all of the games released for the system offer multiplayer support. The score for its multi player is a 5 out of 5. I find it hard to believe that they could improve on this much.
The Xbox 360 in my mind is the best system if you are looking for online action. Without even looking at the graphics or doing an Xbox 360 VGA review it shines. It does not have the fun aspect of the Wii and most of the games are more adult in flavor. The Wii owns the market in fun, interactive games. For non online adult games the Playstation 3 might have a slight edge, but if it does it is very slight and the Xbox 360 can keep up with in almost every regard.

CAD/CAM: Past, Present and Future By Katrina C. Arabe Before CAD/CAM technology, drafts, calculations and product design involved pencil, paper and a seemingly endless succession of blueprints. CAD/CAM's ongoing enhancement has made the process easier, but with the latest slew of features, some users actually find less is more. Virtually every manmade product has been designed and manufactured using a CAD/CAM program. CAD/CAM, or Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing, is utilized in every facet of industry; from designing phones to plotting out toolpaths in die and mold shops. Although the users of CAD/CAM technology may, at times, feel frustrated by how often its software is updated, the fact is that CAD/CAM has close to five decades of history stretching almost as far back as the computer.
CAD/CAM, like the digital computer, had its inception in the military. In the mid-1950s the U.S. Air Force began testing an air defense system known as SAGE (Semi Automatic Ground Environment) to graphically depict data received on radar systems. The first computer actually rendering a program, SAGE was conceived at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 1960, computer scientists at MIT produced yet another project called Sketchpad, an application that is now considered to be the first design program with industrial use. A similar program sprouted up at General Motors soon after. At that time, mainframes were still large enough to take up entire rooms.
During the 1960's CAD/CAM technology continued to evolve and spread to other areas. Automotive companies were the first to adopt the technology, and used it primarily to design automobile bodies. It then quickly spread to other sectors of industry, which were only too eager to abandon traditional pen and paper methods of drafting. By 1973, CAD/CAM was being used to design industrial tools. Midway through the decade, the 19-inch monitor came out, which meant that drawings could be viewed larger than the previous standard of 11 inches. In the second half of the 70s, solid modeling CAD software became readily available. It allowed users to take "geometric primitives" (basic geometric shapes such as boxes and cones) and combine them using Boolean operations. In 1982, Autodesk made CAD/CAM history when it released the first version of AutoCAD, which soon became the premiere software platform for automobile design. At times, the history of CAD/CAM seems like the plot of a spy novel. In 1984, a Hungarian scientist named Gabor Bajor, succeeded in smuggling two Macintosh computers into his Communist-controlled homeland. With the intent of writing a 3D CAD program, Bajor and his teenage assistant used the illegal computers to create just that program, and started the Graphsoft Company. In 1985, Diehl Graphsoft introduced MiniCAD to the market, which would be considered the industry standard for CAD on the Mac. The same year Autodesk unveiled AutoCAD 2.1. Complete with 3D capabilities, AutoCAD 2.1 was another breakthrough that transformed design in the auto industry. In the late 80's and early 90's, CAD/CAM giant Unigraphics took its place as a major industry player by partnering with industry powerhouses such as General Motors, UNIX, GE and Boeing.
During the early 1990s, Unigraphics introduced hybrid modeling, which featured both traditional modeling and advanced parametric techniques. By the end of 1994, over one million units of AutoCAD had been sold, and by the end of 1995, there were about 350,000 users of generic CAD/CAM reported worldwide. In 1996, General Motors signed the largest contract in CAD/CAM's history by selecting Unigraphics as its sole vendor for vehicle development software. Soon afterwards, Unigraphics would once again transform the medium by releasing CAD/CAM software that allowed for the definition, control and evaluation of product templates. Another major advance in CAD/CAM occurred IN 1999 when Think3, a "Johnny-come-lately" to the world of CAD/CAM, introduced the first mechanical design software that could fully combine the power of parametric solids, advanced surfacing, wireframe and two-dimensional drafting on the desktop in one environment. Subsequently, a plethora of software vendors has surfaced, inundating the market with competing CAD/CAM platforms AND causing designers to be alternately pleased and confused by the sheer number of options available to them.
At present, CAD/CAM continues its steady path of progress. Much of this progress is in the form of refining past innovations to make them more efficient and user friendly. A groundbreaking CAD/CAM innovation has not occurred for a number of years, which seems to indicate that another sweeping change is just around the corner -- or maybe not. Despite the advent of 3D CAD/CAM, many CAD/CAM users still prefer to render designs in 2D. Thus, recent 3D innovations such as animated "walk-throughs" (a technique that allows designers to visually move in and around the rendered model, and see it from every possible angle) are still largely underused. The same is true of the bevy of collaboration tools currently available to the CAD/CAM user. The ability to combine CAD/CAM, with finite-element analysis and the accessibility of simulation and knowledge management, has yet to be fully embraced. Perhaps, it is in one of these areas that the next CAD/CAM breakthrough will occur. One thing that can be said with a degree of certainty is that research and development are currently ahead of user demand. When, and if, the garden-variety CAD/CAM user decides that they need to expand their range of capabilities, they will find a world of cutting-edge CAD/CAM tools at their disposal.
