Moving Away From Cable TV

We have been wanting to get rid of cable television service for a long time. The problem is they give you a good deal with their bundles that include telepone, high speed internet, and television service. When customers need to disconnect one of these, you miss out on the savings of the package.

But the cable TV setup just has to go, as the service and quality is below average. With so much talk today about high definition, there just wasn't much choice with my provider. So I began doing a little research on who else was providing service in my area.

I am fortunate to be one of the people who have a couple of options. Unlike most people who can only pick from either the cable company or satellite television, I have a third option in this area. The phone company in my neighborhood has been upgrading the telephone network. Now there is an additional player with Verizon and their fiber optic service.

That doesn't mean of course I won't have similar issues. It would place me in the same boat as with the cable TV company, because telephone guys want customers to bundle their TV setup with high speed and voice service. If the service works out well, customers will be happy. But if its not you are in the same circumstance that we all hate, being stuck with cable TV that isn't all that great.

Some evaluations I found on the internet are fairly good on telecom television service. Of course it is new, there is always a risk with a service like this, and some clients share their poor reviews. Some of those reviews are the quite amusing, simply for the reason customers make the decision to write a dissertation on their horrible experience and share it on the web. They rail on the company like it is some giant conspiracy to screw the customer, like the corporation does not want our money!

Another way to go that I'm looking into is of course satellite television. Since we have four television viewers in our house, we usually buy a high end TV bundle. The satellite companies seem to be fairly even, as the Premier DirecTV package and the America's Everything Pack from DISH Network are both right around $105 per month. Sure that's fairly high for pay television, but when you compare that to taking your family to supper and a movie, the entertainment value is comparable.
